General

1. Am I eligible to the eAlerts Service?

If you got an online account or an account with internet trading funciton, you are eligible to the service. However, you must have a valid Hong Kong mobile number in order to register the service.

2. How can I receive the eAlerts?

Currently, you can only receive eAlerts via SMS.

3. Do I need a special device for the service?

No, all you need is an appropriate telecommunication device which supports to receive SMS. For example, a mobile phone.

Service Offered

4. What is SMS?

SMS (Short message service) is a globally accepted wireless service that enables the transmission of alphanumeric messages.

5. What is DHS eAlerts service?

DHS eAlerts is a chargeable service offered exclusively to DHS Online clients. There are 5 different types of alert including

  1. Price Alerts
    • You will be notified when the price of a stock/ HSI has reached your preset target price or the price rises or falls by the percentage amount you selected.
    • You can set up to a maximum of 50 price alerts
    • Alerts can be set based on Bid /Ask /Nominal/ Last price and Volume etc., as well as price movement
    • Alerts can be set to fired "Once in life time", "Once per day" or "Repeat"
  2. Scheduled alerts
    • You will be notified at your scheduled time to receive intra-day or market close price(s) of your selected stock(s) or HSI indices. Scheduled alerts will be delivered of your choice(s): -
      1. Morning Open: 10:30a.m.
      2. Afternoon Open: 3:00p.m.
      3. Intraday: 10:30a.m. and 3:00p.m.
      4. Market Close: 4:15p.m.
    • A maximum of 2 stocks can be shown in one SMS message
  3. DHS Trading Ideas
    • Provided by our Research Team twice per trading day before market opens
    • Messages include impact of Placement, Extraordinary Turnover, Share Buybacks, Earnings Forecasts, Results Announcements and Trade Recommendations etc.
  4. Dow Jones News alerts
    • News alerts of HK Stock Market Closing Commentary and/or news of particular stocks including Dividends, Results Announcements, Earnings Projection, Equity/ Company News and IPO News etc.
  5. Corporate Actions alerts
    • Set corporate alerts by stock code or by sector and subject setting includes Dividends, Rights, Bonus, Results Announcements, General Meetings, Buyback and Placings etc.
Service Registration

6. How can I set up the eAlerts Service?

You can simply set up the service by going to the eAlerts Management Center under the Trading section.

7. If I do not have a valid Hong Kong mobile number, can I still register the service?

Currently, we provide only SMS alerts, therefore you will not be able to receive SMS alerts if you do not have a valid Hong Kong mobile number.

8. Do I need to provide an email address as well as a valid Hong Kong mobile phone number for the eAlerts Service?

Yes, you need to provide information of the above to set up your eAlerts Service.

9. What if I do not receive the confirmation message(s) from you?

If the confirmation message(s) cannot be received within 24 hours after your registration, you can go to "Status and Settings" under "eAlerts Management Center", select " Recover Lost Confirmation Codes" and follow the instructions there.

10. What if I delete the SMS /email confirmation message sent by you?

You can go to "Status and Settings" under "eAlerts Management Center", select " Recover Lost Confirmation Code" and follow the instructions there.

11. What if I do not confirm my mobile phone number by going to the "Channel Confirmation" page?

Your registration is not complete if you fail to enter your 8-digit confirmation code sent by us via SMS onto "Confirm Mobile No." of the "Channel Confirmation" page.

12. What if I do not confirm my email adress by going to the "Channel Confirmation" page?

Your registration is not complete if you fail to enter your 9-digit confirmation code sent by us via email onto "Confirm Email address" of the "Channel Confirmation" page.

13. Can I register more than one mobile phone numbers for the service?

No, only one mobile phone number can be registered for the service.

Fees and Charges

14. How much do I need to pay for the eAlerts Service?

You have to pay a deposit of HK$200 when you enable the eAlerts service. The current charge for each SMS alert is HK$1.

15. When will I be charged for the eAlerts Service?

Your eAlerts usage will be accrued and calculated every calendar month. The amount of the fee due will be debited from your norminated account on the second trading day of the next consecutive month.

16. When do I need to make the deposit of the service?

We will debit HK$200 from your designated DHS account upon your eAlerts service registration.

Service

17. What are the possible reasons that I do not receive any SMS message sent by you?

The possible reasons that SMS message(s) may not be reached to you are due to:

  • The message box of your mobile phone is full
  • Your mobile service operator does not support SMS service
  • Your mobile phone number is invalid
  • The message is lost at the mobile operator’s system due to unknown reason
  • Your mobile phone has been turned off
  • You are not in Hong Kong when the message is sent
  • The mobile service operator’s SMS message system is out of order
Service Suspension and Termination

18. How can I suspend my eAlerts service?

You can simply go to the "Status and Settings" and select "Temporarily Suspend eAlerts Service" and follow the instructions there.

19. Do I need to suspend the eAlerts Service if I am traveling outside Hong Kong?

It’s all up to you. However, you are responsible to check with your mobile operator if there is any surcharge imposed for SMS message received outside Hong Kong.

20. How can I resume my eAlerts service?

You can simply go to "Status and Settings", select "Resume eAlerts Service" and follow the instructions there.

21. How can I terminate my eAlerts service?

You can simply go to "Status and Settings", select "Terminate eAlerts Service" and follow the instructions there.

22. How come my eAlerts service has been suspended by DHS?

We will suspend your eAlerts service whenever you update your mobile phone number and/or your email address on the "Status and Settings" page. You have to confirm your update(s) in order to reactivate your eAlerts service.

23. How can I get back my deposit if I terminate the eAlerts Service?

We will refund your deposit to your designated DHS account on the next trading day upon your instruction of service termination.

24. Can I continue to use the eAlerts Service if I have closed my DHS account?

No, your eAlerts service will be terminated upon the closure of your DHS account.

25. How can I add a new price alert?

  1. Login to eAlerts Management Center
  2. Select "Price Alert" from the upper menu bar
  3. Click the "Add New" button
  4. Select and input the criteria of your target alert
  5. Click the "Add Price Alert" button
  6. Check if the set alert is now appears on the "Active Price Alerts" table

26. How can I amend a price alert?

  2. Select "Price Alert" from the upper menu bar
  3. From the "Active Price alerts" table, select the alert that you want to amend, then click "Change"
  4. Reset the alert
  5. Click the "Edit Price Alert" button
  6. Check if the reset alert has been changed on the Active Price Alerts table

27. How can I cancel a price alert?

  4. Check if the alert has been removed on the Active Price Alerts table

28. What is "Fire Mode"?

"Fire Mode" is a method of setting the alert.

  • "Once" means the alert will be fired only once in life time
  • "Daily" means the alert will be fired at most once per day
  • "Repeat" means the alert will be fired every time the specified field moves across the limit value

29. What are the differences among each Fire Mode?

For example, if you set the alert criteria as follow: -

Stock: 0005
Field to Monitor: Last
Value: 120
Condition:

Fire Mode: Once (Once in a life time)
An alert will be sent to your nominated mobile number when it triggers (last price of HSBC moves up to HK$120) and the alert status will set to "Fired"

Fire Mode: Daily (Once a day)
An alert will be sent to your nominated mobile number when it triggers first time in a trading day (last price of HSBC moves up to HK$120) and the status will remain "Active". No more alert will be sent on the same day even though the alert has been triggered again. At most one alert will be sent for each setup on a trading day.

Fire Mode: Repeat (Every time the alert is triggered)
An alert will be sent to your nominated mobile every time it triggers in a trading day (last price of HSBC moves up to HK$120) and the status will remain "Active".

Note: Each alert sent will be charged. If you have set your Fire Mode to "Repeat" and received 10 alerts for the same set up in a month, HK$10 will be charged. Please note that via IVRS, the "Fire Mode" can only be set to "Once".

30. How can I set up a Scheduled Alert?

  1. Login to eAlerts Management Center
  2. Select "Chargeable Alerts" from the upper menu bar
  3. Select "Scheduled Alerts"
  4. Click "Add New Alert"
  5. Select and input the criteria of your target alert
  6. Click "Add Scheduled Alert"
  7. Check if the set alert is now appears on the "Scheduled Alerts" table

  4. From the "Scheduled Alerts" table, select the alert that you want to amend, then click "Change"
  5. Reselect your schedule
  6. Click "Edit Scheduled Alert" button
  7. Check if the schedule has been changed on the Scheduled Alerts table

32. How can I cancel Scheduled Alerts?

  5. You will see a pop up message "Are you sure you want to delete this Scheduled Alert?". Click "OK" to proceed
  6. When instruction has been executed, you will see a pop up message " Your Scheduled Alert was successfully deleted". Click "Close" to confirm
  7. Check if the alert has been removed on the Scheduled Alerts table

33. How can I set up a News Alert?

  1. Login to eAlerts Management Center

  3. Select "News Alerts"
  4. Click "Add New Alert"
  5. Choose to set up Dow Jones News alert or SEHK News alert
  6. Select and input the criteria of your target alert
  7. Click "Add News Alert"
  8. Check if you can see the set alert appears on the "News Alerts" table

34. How can I amend a News Alert?

  1. Login to eAlerts Management Center
  2. Select "Chargeable Alerts" from the upper menu bar
  3. Select "News Alerts"
  4. From the "News Alerts" table, select the alert that you want to amend, then click "Change"
  5. Reset the alert
  6. Click "Edit News Alert" button
  7. Check if the reset alert has been changed on the News Alerts table

35. How can I cancel a News Alert?

  1. Login to eAlerts Management Center
  2. Select "Chargeable Alerts" from the upper menu bar
  3. Select "News Alerts"
  4. From the "News Alerts" table, select the alert that you want to delete, then click "Delete"
  5. You will see a pop up message "Are you sure you want to delete this News Alert?". Click "OK" to proceed
  6. When instruction has been executed, you will see a pop up message " Your news alert has been successfully deleted". Click "Close" to confirm
  7. Check if the alert has been removed on the News Alerts table
